Release Through Jesus Prison Ministry

Biography of RTJ:

Rev. James Helton began ministering to prisoners in the Moultrie County Jail in 1985. Since then his ministry has grown to include more than 50 volunteers holding regular services at prisons throughout Central and Southern Illinois and the Metro-East area.

Jim is a brand plucked from the fire and has a moving testimony of the grace of God in his life. He was called by the Lord into the prison ministry which has given him the confidence that the work that has begun in him will be performed until the day of Jesus Christ. The Release Through Jesus ministry began in Sullivan, Illinois and then spread to other areas throughout the state with plans being made for their services in other jails and prisons.

The main goal of this ministry is to lift up Jesus that he might draw all men unto himself; pointing souls to Jesus Christ as the only name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. God still heals the brokenhearted, delivers those that are bound by the devil, and sets at liberty those that have been wounded. Many backsliders returns to the Lord in prison.

Our secondary goal is to see that men hide the Word of God in their hearts that they might not sin against God, and fellowship around the Word in bible study. Release Through Jesus Prison Ministry teams lead bible studies during the week. We believe a mind renewed by the Word of God will cause a man to walk by faith and not by sight and be changed to the glory of God!
